Often, strips are sewn together before cutting apart with a 'rotary cutter' to reveal strips that are already sewn together. This method is called 'strip-piecing' and is faster and often more accurate than the more traditional methods:
'Half-square' () and 'quarter-square'
() triangles are often sewn together
to make squares. This can also be done before cutting. This method, called the 'grid' method, keeps squares 'on grain' and keeps the
bias edges from stretching:
Another method is called the 'Bias Square' method. This involves sewing together
long bias strips and pressing them open before cutting out the squares, using a
special ruler and rotary cutter. This method also keeps the squares 'on grain'
and yields a very accurate square:
